Jockey Shabbir completes splendid treble
KARACHI, July 10: Jockey Ghulam Shabbir was the pick of the day as he performed a splendid treble while Ghori was deprived of a hat trick in the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Shabbir, 31, triumphed in the last three races to finish the day with treble, a rare honour indeed.
First he piloted home Queen Of Sanghar to victory in the fifth race beating favourite Haseena-e-Arab to second place by three lengths Princess Javeria and Snake River as expected, followed next.
Queen Of Sanghar was rank outsider in the race with fourteen horses in fray.
His winner in the sixth race was Arab Hi Arab, winning the sprint in a start to finish bid. He was chased by Fantastic Again and Sweet Grandy who grabbed second and third places respectively in a close finish.
In the concluding race, he rode favourite Bahar-e-Arab to victory by neck in a photo finish. With jockey Muhammad Essa in the saddle, Donatello finished second while Rahil Jan had to be content with third position.
Joining Shabbir in jubilation was trainer Ghulam Channa whose two trained horses Arab Hi Arab and Bahar-e-Arab won top honours.
Earlier, Khush Nazar, ridden by Zulfiqar Ali, ended the winning run of Ghori posting an amazing victory in the first race of afternoon.
Owned by Raja Sajid Abbasi and trained by Razzak, Khush Nazar won by ¾ lengths. Smokey Prince clinched second position.
Favourite Fascinate lived up to his reputation when he ran away with the honours in the second race. Azam The Great and Jet Zone chased the winner to finish second and third respectively.
Ridden by jockey Abdul Rahim Dunhill Dancer pulled off an upset when he triumphed in the third race by four lengths. Favourite Big Daddy failed to occupy a place.
The fourth race saw favourite Thanks Naeem with jockey Fahim Karim in the saddle, sprinting home to victory. He won with ease by six lengths.
The next race meeting is scheduled for July 17.
