PESHAWAR, July 10: Army won the Inter-services football championship to retain the title for the eighth year in a row after securing a convincing 3-0 victory over PAF in the last double league round match at PAF football ground on Sunday.
Army had though lifted the trophy before their last encounter with PAF, yet they had to play the match in order to make positions clear.
Both PAF and Navy were equal on point tally (4-4), but later the airmen’s 3-0 defeat helped Navy win the second spot on best goal average.
The match kicked off at a quick pace as Army were put ahead in the 13th minute through promising Muhammad Shabbir.
The play stopped for 20 minutes in the second half due to a controversial decision by referee Fayyaz Saddique. It resumed after the chief guest intervened.
Shabbir slammed his second goal in the 77th minute through field attempt and sealed the fate of the match.—APP
