BEIJING, July 10: Senior officers from Pakistan and China will meet here on Tuesday to hold consultation on matters relating to arms control, disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation.

The two countries have set up a ‘consultation mechanism’ on important security issues. They will avail opportunity to discuss various new initiatives taken at regional and international levels for arms control.

Diplomatic sources told APP that the two countries enjoyed close cooperation and shared identical views on wide-ranging issues of nuclear non-proliferation. China has always appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and support for peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Pakistan’s side would be led at the talks by the Director General Disarmament Nazir Hussain, while the Chinese side will be represented by a senior official of its foreign ministry, Zhang Yan.

During its stay in Beijing, the Pakistan’s delegation would also hold meetings with the members of Chinese think-tanks Association of Peace and Disarmament, Arms Control and Disarmament Association and Institute of Strategic Studies.

According to the sources Pakistan and China, being traditional strategic partner, also strengthened consultation mechanism in the recent years for promoting cooperation in the non-traditional security fields and working together for peace and development at all levels.—APP
