KARACHI: Man burns wife to death

KARACHI, July 10: A housewife was burnt to death allegedly by her husband in Lines Area on Sunday. Police said Gurya, 22, wife of Muhammad Yousaf lived in Jamhooria Colony near Kalapul and was visiting relatives in Lines Area along with her husband.

According to the police, she reportedly suffered burn injuries in the kitchen of the house. She was taken to the Civil Hospital.

Hospital sources said the duty doctor at the burns ward had told the police that the patient was unfit to give any statement. Subsequently, the police returned from the hospital. The patient was diagnosed with 100 per cent burns.

Later, the duty lady medico-legal officer went to the burns ward to take her statement. The MLO said the patient was conscious and she stated that her husband had burnt her at their relatives’ house. The lady MLO took her signatures on the statement. Shortly after, the patient succumbed to her wounds.

Tilling the filing of this report, the police had not arrested the suspect, saying no statement had been recorded.

ACCIDENT: A girl died in an accident in Orangi Town on Sunday.

Police said Asma, 11, had disembarked from a coach along with her mother in Mominabad, and she was heading towards the market when a speeding Mashriq coach knocked her down.

She was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where she was pronounced dead by doctors.

Police have claimed to have nabbed the errant driver, Sher Zaman, and have impounded the coach.
