KARACHI, July 10: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement, condemning the killing of a religious scholar, Maulana Shamsuddin, in Orangi Town recently, has demanded that the killers be brought to the book and tried and punished according to the law.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, the party maintained that after the press conference by Ahle Sunnat leaders Qari Shafiqur Rehman, Hafiz Bakhsh advocate and Engineer Ilyas Zuberi, it had become clear that who were actually eliminating ulema and patronizing the culprits.
It said that Maulana Shamsuddin’s activities were confined purely to religious and academic services and those who killed him wanted to get political mileage. The elements behind his killing were the same who were involved in the earlier killings of other ulema belonging to the Jamia Binnoria including Maulana Habibullah Mukhtar, Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai and Mufti Ateequr Rehman.
The MQM statement said that there were some people who, on the one hand, were providing shelter to killers and, on the other, raising a hue and cry for the arrest of the culprits. They were not only criticizing the government, but also making efforts to create a law and order situation in the city, it added.
The MQM urged the authorities that since the Ahle Sunnat leaders had uncovered the conspiracy and hinted at the ‘hidden hands’, the culprits be arrested and punished immediately.support to workers: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s parliamentary party leader in the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar has offered all possible support from his party to KESC employees in resolving their problems and addressing grievances of KESC consumers regarding disruption in power supply that had been affecting citizens’ life, adds PPI.
He was speaking at a dinner hosted for him by the B.Tech engineers of the KESC on Saturday.
“This function reflects the pleasant atmosphere that exists in the KESC and the credit for this goes to both the employees and managing director Brig Tariq Saddozai,” he remarked.
Dr Sattar, while referring to the promotion granted to the B.Tech engineers, said: “Our party has been acting like a bridge between the management and employees of the KESC. In fact, we have been playing this role other such organizations also where a void exists because of the non-functioning of employees’ union.”
He agreed with a speaker who had suggested that such issues be resolved on routine basis and there should be a set policy in this regard so that employees could devote their time and energy to more purposeful activities.
MNA Kanwar Khalid Younus and Syed Shakil Ashraf also spoke on the occasion.
Later, Dr Farooq Sattar awarded a shield to KESC MD which was received by Lt-Col Anwar Khursheed on his behalf. Shields were also distributed among many engineers.—PPI
