KARACHI, July 10: The central leader of the PML and former information minister, Senator Nisar Memon, has called on the PTCL and other telecom companies to provide free service to charity institutions, hospitals, police, blood banks, fire brigade, etc, so that people may easily get help from then when required.
The senator, in an official statement the other day, also urged telecom companies to allocate some percentage of their revenue to corporate social responsibility programmes, an established practice in most countries.
The senator complained that the toll-free no ‘115’ gets disconnected, therefore, it should be fixed on priority, while toll-free nos with the prefix ‘0800’ should be free of processing fee, installation charges, security deposits, call charges and government charges.
He said UANs should be offered free to facilitate people, and hotlines should be set up between welfare institutions and major hospitals. These institutions should also be provided free internet websites.
Mr Memon suggested that a facility like ‘911’ in the US should be introduced here to help people meet all kinds of emergencies.
He also said that mobile phones should be able connect to ‘115’ efficiently.
Mr Memon urged the telecom companies to bring their technology at par with the developed countries, so that the people of Pakistan could enjoy the same quality of facilities.—APP
