LAHORE, July 9: Fifteen games, including three for women, have been selected for the second Pakistan-India Punjab Games to be held in Lahore and Faisalabad from Dec 24 to 30.
This was disclosed by Punjab Olympic Association (POA) secretary, Khawaja Idrees Haider, after attending the general council meeting of the association which took various decisions regarding the games.
The disciplines included are athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, kabbadi, rifle shooting, polo, volleyball and weightlifting, wrestling.
The secretary explained that handball competitions would be held in Faisalabad while Lahore would host the other 14 disciplines.
He said that women would take part in athletics, cycling and badminton. He remarked that the general body also proposed to include four more games including table tennis, squash, judo and tug-of-war.
The POA would send the proposal to its Indian counterpart soon, he added. The secretary pointed out that a total Indian delegation of 375 was expected to take part in the games.
Patiala, in Indian Punjab, held the first edition in December last year.
He said that the players who had displayed a good performance in the last games were yet to receive the prize money amounting to Rs 650,000 which he added they would receive soon.
