LAHORE, July 9: A tricky card of six events has been chalked out for the Lahore Summer Meeting to be held at the Racecourse on Sunday. The first two events will be held over the sprinting distance of 1000m, the third and fourth over 1100m and the fifth and sixth over 1200m.
If everything goes his way, the five-year-old horse Bone Crusher, who was beaten in his outing on Tuesday last, should make amends in the fourth event, a class V division 1 handicap race to be gone over 1100m.
The bay had been unlucky and beaten on his two consecutive outings. He should be followed by Bahar-i-Bhakkar and Dancing Star.
The other events of the card seems to be tightly handicapped and are packed with three or more chance horses, who may provide some thrills and shrills to the punters.
In the opener Dogar’s Gift, Asif Love and Lovely Diana are on chance. The last named has an edge over the others for being a speedy mare.
Princess Afaq, Russian Rythym, Two-B and Zuhair Chance come into reckoning in the second race which has the biggest field of 16 runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.
The way Princess Afaq won the race on Tuesday last should pick up the spoils once again. Three contestants are the pick of the 12 runners in the third race on recent form.
They are: Little Hut, Bahar-i-Bhakkar, and Dancing Star.
Although Little Hut has been assigned top weight of 9-3 in the handicap, he is capable of carrying the day by winning the race.
On recent performance and form three contenders may battle for the top honours in the fifth race to be run over 1200 metres.
They are High Dream, Wall Street and light weight Puma princess. High Dream , although carrying 9-0 weight still looks on a better edge.
The sixth and the feature event has only seven runners barring last-minute withdrawals.
None of them has shown any recent form and performance to be reckoned with which makes it a wide open affair.
The best way for the punters is either to skip this race from the betting point of view and just watch it.
The track conditions after the recent rains too are not favourable equally for the runners because some like soft going and the others may not like it.
This factor also provides owners, jockeys and trainers, a pretext for in-and-out running to go unscathed.
The first race will be held at 2.30pm.
