LARKANA, July 9: A large number of people protesting over inclusion of some union councils of the Larkana district into the Shikarpur district held a rally in Naudero on Saturday. Activists of the PPP took out a procession from the municipality and gathered on the Larkana-Sukkur bypass road. MNA Ruqia Khanum Soomro, Ghulam Haider Narejo and Ghulam Mustafa Agham led the protesters.
The participants were carrying banners and placards.
They chanted slogans against the division of Ratodero and blocked the Larkana-Sukkur road for an hour.
MPA Ayaz Soomro, former District Nazim Khursheed Junejo and MNA Ruqia Khanum Soomro said four dehs — Shadi Abro, Panjo Kinaro, Nazar Detho and Salar Janveri — were chopped from Ratodero taluka and merged with Garhi Yaseen taluka of the Shikarpur district.
They said it was a calculated move to divide Benazir Bhutto’s constituency.
They demanded that the decision should be withdrawn and Naudero should be given a status of taluka because it comprised of nine union councils.
EX-NAZIM HELD: Police on Friday arrested Mohammed Khan Chandio, ex-nazim of the Mirpur union council.
The PPP Qambar held a demonstration and demanded that the ex-nazim should be released.
The protesters said the police had picked him in lieu of his relatives who had gone underground. Police covering up its ineptness arrested the ex-union council nazim, they alleged.—BoC
