KARACHI, July 9: District and Sessions Judge East Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani on Saturday reserved order on the acquittal application of Asif Zardari in Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case. Defence counsel Barrister Azizullah K Shiekh contended that the prosecution had failed to prove conspiracy charges and supporting evidences against his client in Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case.
He pleaded court to exonerate his client from killing charges as despite lapse of several years prosecution could not conclude the case and produce evidence against his client.
Special Public Prosecutor Ilyas Khan vehemently opposed the defence application and said prosecution has a very strong evidence to establish that a conspiracy was hatched for killing Murtaza Bhutto and others. Besides, prosecution has evidence that the accused tried to destroy evidence against them.
He contended at this stage trial it would be premature to decide the application and prayed the court to dismiss the same giving opportunity to prosecution to prove the guilt of the accused.
He said case is made out against the accused and prosecution has to produce further evidence to prove its case.
The court after hearing arguments of counsel reserved the order on the application for Aug 30, as well as the hearing of the main case.—PPI
