FAISALABAD, July 8: The Citizen-Police Liaison Committee would be re-structured to implement the community policing concept to control heinous crimes, Faisalabad Range DIG Sajjad Ahmad told the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association on Thursday night. He said Faisalabad was an industrial and commercial hub of the country and better security there was important.
Though the police were taking stringent measures to curb crime, they alone could not perform any better because of meagre resources and required active participation of people from all walks of life.
He also referred to the blasts in London to make a point that the whole world was under threat of terrorists. Sectarian violence like the incidents in Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi had claimed lives of scores of people — a clear evidence of lawlessness in the country, he said.
The range police, he said, had recently smashed several gangs of dacoits and robbers and those involved in kidnap for ransom. He said the district police apprehended the kidnappers of Usman, a businessman, who was kidnapped from People’s Colony some time ago and was released after his family paid Rs3 million ransom.
Mr Ahmad also said 30 proclaimed offenders were killed in encounters with police during the last six months.
DPO Muhammad Wains asked the industrialists and businessmen to help the police in materializing its special security plan, which included installation of electric alarms in godowns and mills. Closed-circuit televisions had already been installed in the eight bazaars around the clock tower, which had considerably controlled crime.
A rescue-15 had been planned for Ghulam Muhammadabad after its successful working in many other parts of the district.
