SUKKUR, July 7: The Civil Court in Rohri on Thursday remanded a constable, Soomar, in police custody for three days. He was arrested on Wednesday in a rape case. It is alleged that a women, Shamshad, was raped by three policemen in Rohri police station on Tuesday night. The policemen, who had arrested Shamshad in her house near Rohri, allegedly kept her at the police station for investigation.

Later, three policemen allegedly assaulted her. They released her on Wednesday morning.

Shamshad informed the DSP of Rohri, Ali Mohammad Mahar, about the incident who, after investigation, registered an FIR against policemen, Soomar, Sharif and a colleague of theirs whose identity could not be known, under the Hudood Ordinance.

Police arrested Soomar, but Sharif and the third policeman were absconding.

VILLAGERS RAIDED: Police on Thursday conducted raids on some villages in the katcha area and set ablaze 10 houses following the killing of two brothers and looting of 50 cattle heads in Ali Bilawal Domki village near Kashmore.

A heavy contingent of police and FC led by Miani TPO Bachal Shaikh raided the village and on seeing the police the inmates opened fire which was returned by the police.

Police claimed the main accused managed to flee towards the forest.

Later, police conducted house-to-house search but no arrest or recovery was reported.

It may be mentioned that about 12 armed people raided village Ali Bilawal and unfasten some 50 cattle heads from the village when the villagers woke up and offered resistance and exchange of firing took place between the villagers and dacoits.
