HYDERABAD: Demand for autonomy under ’40 resolution

HYDERABAD, July 6: The Sindh National Party has demanded that all federating units should be made “autonomous” and “sovereign” as envisaged by the leaders of the All-India Muslim League in the Lahore Resolution. Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Wednesday, party chairman Amir Bhambhro said the SNP would hold peaceful demonstrations, seminars and conferences in the country, including the federal and provincial capitals, to mobilize public opinion for the implementation of 1940 resolution.
Party vice-chairman Khan Dahri and general secretary Dilshad Bhutto were present on the occasion.
Mr Bhambhro said the rulers during the last 58 years had exploited the people in the name of Islam, unity and brotherhood.
He alleged that innocent people were being killed as others could be harassed and subjugated.
He said nationalist leaders were being imprisoned and dubbed as anti-state elements and traitors for demanding rights.
He said the 1973 Constitution was torn into shreds and its maker was sent to gallows.
Mr Bhambhro said the rulers had not changed the behaviour which had caused the dismemberment of the country and Bangladesh had come into being.
He said Gen Pervez Musharraf had given an assurance that federating units would be given full autonomy and the people would be compensated for the past injustices.
