HYDERABAD: HDA asked to ensure adequate water supply

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, July 6: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad has taken a notice of shortage of water in different localities of the city. Speaking at a meeting at his office here on Tuesday, he said the governor had asked the management of HDA to ensure uninterrupted water supply to all localities and warned it of strong action if it failed to do so.

He said the Sindh governor had accepted the proposals submitted by MPA Arshad Shah and MPA Aslam Pervaiz for resolving the water shortage problems being faced by the residents of the city.

He said the Sindh government would extend all possible help to restore normal water supply through alternate means and announced ten water tankers for the HDA to supply water in case water supply was suspended there due to any technical fault.

The DCO said of these ten tankers, eight water tankers had been received while remaining two would be provided within a couple of days.

He called upon the HDA for launching extensive monitoring of water supply and opening complaint cells at local offices to register complaints of people and identify localities facing water shortage so that the people could be facilitated through alternate means.

He said the Sindh governor was also keen to get on-going development schemes completed which had been taken in hand under Rs120 million special grant sanctioned by him for improvement of water supply system so that the problems could be resolved on the permanent basis.

As such the pace of development work on these schemes should be expedited on the emergency basis, he said.

PROTEST PLANNED: The Awami Tehrik has announced that its activists will observe hunger strikes in Sindh from July 11 to July 17 in protest against conspiracy of handing over the possession of 250 miles of coastal area from Karachi to Badin to the vested interests.

According to a statement faxed to Dawn on Tuesday, the decision to the effect was taken at a meeting of the central committee of the party.

The meeting condemned increase in oil prices and other consumer goods and said the so-called economic development was a fraud with the people.

It claimed 60 per cent of the rural population was living below poverty line.

The meeting alleged that Karachi had been converted into a slaughter house where the terrorists were eliminating their opponents one by one.

The meeting accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of taking over land, employment, business and local body organizations in Sindh.
