KARACHI, July 6: An associate of the Rehman Dakait was killed and two of his accomplices were arrested by the police in an encounter on Hub River Road on Wednesday. DSP Aslam Khan and DSP Irfan Bahadur of the Industrial Crime Unit tried to intercept a snatched vehicle (AGU-592) on Hub River Road, which ensued an exchange of fire. Subsequently, a suspect identified as Abdul Shakoor alias Langra died. Two of his accomplices, Hameedullah and Arshad alias Hasan, were arrested by the Unit.
Police recovered three AK-47 rifles, eight magazines and 1,000 rounds from the vehicle. DSP Irfan told Dawn that Shakoor was wanted in around 20 criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder and police encounter.
SHOT DEAD: Bandits shot dead a young man on resistance in North Karachi on Wednesday.
Police said that the young man in his mid-30s was on a motorcycle when unknown persons intercepted him in sector 11-J. As the young man who could not be immediately identified by the police tried to pose resistance, on which the suspects shot him and took away his motorcycle.
The victim was shifted to Abbasi Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In another incident, two persons were wounded when they resisted armed suspects in SITE area on Wednesday.
Police said Huymaun, 35 and Nazar Ali, 40, were returning after withdrawing cash from a back branch when they were intercepted by two armed suspects near Habib Bank Chowrangi.
As they tried to pose resistance the suspects shot them and took away cash.
ACCIDENTS: A young student died in a road accident on University Road Wednesday.
Wajid Ali, 20, was on his motorcycle when a speeding coach knocked him down near Met Office.
The young man was taken to a nearby hospital, and was later to JPMC. However, he died during treatment.
Police have arrested the driver of the coach and impounded the vehicle.
In another accident, a motorcyclist died when an auto-rickshaw hit him in SITE area.
Shaban Ali, 30, died in the accident. The driver of the auto-rickshaw was also injured in the accident.
