KARACHI: DHA’s rain emergency plan


KARACHI, July 6: A meeting of the DHA’s high officials finalized a rain emergency plan for the authority and Clifton Cantonment Board (CCB) areas. The meeting was presided over by the Administrator DHA and President Clifton Cantonment Board (CCB), Brig Maqsood Hussain, at the DHA’s main office on Wednesday. The administrator stressed the importance of making all-out preparations before the rains start to effectively combat any untoward situation.

He directed that control centres be established to work round the clock during the rainy season for effective monitoring and prompt attendance of public complaints.

Earlier, Maj (Retd) Javaid Munawwar, Deputy Director General Services DHA, briefed the meeting about preparatory actions taken by the DHA/CCB in connection with rain emergency.

He said mechanical de-silting of Jami and Commercial drains in DHA had already been completed while de-silting of the Korangi Road drain was in progress.

Brig Maqsood directed that the whole of the DHA and the CCB area be properly sprayed and disinfected after the rains.

He stressed the need for setting up flood relief camps to meet any untoward emergency.

The meeting decided to establish two 24-hour control centres, to effectively monitor and control the entire relief operation.

Residents of the DHA’s phases I, II, II Extn and IV should contact Maj (Retd) Javaid Munawwar, In-charge Control Centre, on telephone Nos 5886412 and 03008295568 during any rain emergency.

While residents of phases V, V Extn, VI, VII, VII Extn, and all katchi abadis in the CCB jurisdiction should contact the CCB Chief Engineer, Muhammad Idrees, on telephone nos 5843221 and 03002234795 for complaints.

The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer CCB Zeenat Ahmad and other concerned officials of the DHA and the CCB.—APP
