ASTANA (Kazakhstan), July 5: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Tuesday that both Pakistan and India were committed to the composite dialogue process for resolving peacefully all outstanding issues, including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We want the peace process to move forward. We want various issues between the two countries to be resolved,” he told journalists after meeting Indian External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh, who had called on him on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri was present during the meeting.
The prime minister described the discussion as good and said it was held in a very ‘open’ and ‘informal’ atmosphere.
“We discussed the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir to see how we can resolve it,” he said.
The two sides also exchanged views on water issues, including the Baglihar dam, and the gas pipeline project.
The prime minister said that the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline project would create a win-win situation for both sides.
He noted that the two countries were engaged in formal talks at various levels.
“Both countries are committed to the peace process and to resolve the disputes peacefully,” he said. He said it was a continuous process and the discussion would keep going on.
“We are looking ahead to develop, grow and share what is happening all over the world,” he said.
“Pakistan would like to increase the frequency of the Muzaffarbad-Srinagar bus service and it wants more air services between the two countries,” the Indian minister said after the meeting.
“Trucks should also carry goods between the two countries. We also discussed opening of the Wagah-Attari road that will revive trade between the two countries,” he said.
“We agreed that the process is irreversible,” he told newsmen about the dialogue, the Press Trust of India said.
According to the PTI, Mr Sindh told Mr Aziz that it was ready to give what he claimed ‘concrete evidence’ of alleged cross-border terrorism and made it clear that his country would not accept linkage of trade and economic cooperation with progress on the Kashmir issue.—APP / PPI
