Talib’s century goes in vain
KARACHI, July 5: Despite a brilliant unbeaten century by Talib Ali, Zone-V suffered a 39-run defeat against Zone-II in the PCB Karachi region Under-19 Inter-district Cricket Championship match at the TMC Ground on Tuesday.
Chasing 292 for victory, Zone-V were restricted to 252 for nine in the allotted 90 overs with Talib Ali finishing on 141 not out off 140 balls. His knock was laced with 15 boundaries.
Slow left-armer Athar Hussain captured six for 114 in 42 overs. He was ably assisted by off-spinner Shamir Khattak (three for 117).
At the Students Sports Ground, Zone-VI completed a crushing 236-run victory over Zone-I after the latter were bowled out for 167.
Fine batting by Fazal Subhan and Basit Butt inspired Zone-VII to a five-wicket win against Zone-IV at the Asifabad Sports Ground. Fazal made 77 with nine fours and Basit an unbeaten 50, including eight boundaries, as Zone-VII reached their target of 246 in the 78th over.
