Former Indian spinner dies


MUMBAI, July 5: Former Indian Test leg-spinner Baloo Gupte died here on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. Gupte, aged 70, is survived by widow, a son and a daughter.

The former cricketer had been in the ICU of a local hospital for last three days, Mumbai Cricket Association said.

The international career of Gupte, who played three Tests and took three wickets, spanned over five years after his debut against Pakistan at Chennai in 1960-61. He played his last test against New Zealand in 1964-65.

In first-class cricket, Gupte represented Mumbai, Bengal, and Railways.—Agencies
