Night Beauty storms home to five-length triumph

LAHORE, July 5: Four-year-old filly, Night Beauty,stormed home to win the feature event during the postponed Lahore Summer Meeting of the new Lahore Racing Calendar 2005-06 at the Racecourse on Tuesday.

The filly from Yasoob Again out-of-Native Tune defeated her half-brother Safe And Sound by five clear lengths.

Pawan finished third half-a-length back while My Own Job completed the frame among nine runners.

The winner clocked one min 1 2/5 secs over the sprinting distance of 1000m.

Owned by Khawaja M. Arif and trained by Mubarik Ali, the filly was ridden by jockey M. Zeeshan.

This was the class four handicap race and the seventh and last of the card.

Races were scheduled to be held on Sunday last but were postponed to Tuesday because of rains in the city. A race earlier Morning Bird surprised the race-goers when winning the supporting event over 1000m.

He beat fancied Persian Bold by 1 1/2 lengths, who nosed out Lucky Mayla on the finishing line by a short-head verdict.

The best performance of the day came from five-year-old Jia Jee, who won the fourth race by a distance in an immaculate running.

Green Hill came staggering behind while Little Hut finished third. Mera Chandiwala completed the board among eleven runners left in the field after the last-minute withdrawal of Over Trick.

Jia Jee clocked one min 2 1/5 secs over the 1000m distance.

The opener was won by Princess Afaq, who ran a classic race from start to finish, defeating Bird Fly by a distance.

The race-goers braved muggy weather when a card of seven races was gone through, all events were decided over 1000m.
