PESHAWAR, July 5: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that no one will be allowed to interfere in administrative affairs of Afghan refugee camps in settled areas of the province. He was talking to UNHCR representative in Pakistan Guenet Guebre-Christos at the Frontier House on Monday. He highlighted problems created by interference of the ministry of state and frontier region in the affairs of the refugee camps and urged the United Nations High Commission on Refugees to play its role in this regard.

He said that the people and government of the NWFP were facing a lot of problems due to presence of Afghan refugees in the province for 25 years.

He added that the NWFP had been serving the refugees through its limited resources and they were getting sizable funds for projects in different sectors, including education, health, communications and water and power.

Mr Durrani told the UNHCR official that the flood-affected local and Afghan people were being provided relief goods on the basis of equality in the province.

Ms Guebre-Christos told the chief minister that the UNHCR did not believe in interfering in the affairs of the provincial government and assured him that it would rather prefer direct relationship with the NWFP government over the relief activities.

She lauded the NWFP government and its people for serving and facilitating Afghan refugees.
