PPP demands election under interim set-up

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, July 5: The People’s Party Parliamentarians, Balochistan, has demanded formation of an interim government comprising representatives of political parties to hold general election within three months. Speakers at a public meeting at Sarawan House on Tuesday condemned the toppling of the elected government headed by late Z.A. Bhutto on July 5, 1977, and vowed to continue their struggle againsst the army to restore real constitutional rule.

Balochistan PPP chief Nawabzada Lashkari Khan Raisani preside over the meeting.

The speakers said the PPP was observing July 5 as ‘black day’. They said PPP leaders and workers faced ruthless oppression of the military dictator during the Zia regime but they remained steadfast against the reign of terror.

They said that now the party was one again confronting a military dictator who was mounting pressure on it to sideline former prime minister Benazir Bhutto from its leadership. They said the PPP was united under her leadership and no compromise would be made on the issue.
