KARACHI, July 5: Rain emergency centres have been set up in various towns to cope with any crisis situation in the coming rains. The rain emergency centre in Liaquatabad Town has started functioning in the town’s central office on the directives of Caretaker/Town Officer Liaquatabad Town Ghafran Ahmed.
A press release issued on Tuesday, said all necessary equipment including water pumps and others have been provided.
The rain emergency centre’s phone numbers are 6608233 and 6687021.
ORANGI: A central complaint centre has been established in Orangi Town office to cope with any emergency during the expected monsoon rains. Besides, all union council offices of the town have been declared as complaints centres.
These steps were taken during a meeting on Tuesday to review preventive measures for rain and floods, with Town Caretaker, Qamar Shaikh, in the chair.
It was decided that during the rains, officials would be present in the complaints centres, while citizens have been advised to register their complaints in these centres.
The town caretaker warned concerned officials of stern action for any negligence.
He later inspected the cleaning and de-silting campaign drains.
JAMSHED TOWN: The Jamshed Town Municipal Administration has devised a strategy to cope with expected rains. It has declared emergency in the town.
Leaves of all the staff have been cancelled, while work on cleaning rain drains is underway. Some 200 truckloads of garbage have been lifted from the drain in Soldier Bazaar.
The Caretaker and TMO of Jamshed Town, Sarwar Ahmed Memon, in an emergency on Tuesday asked officials to get prepared for coping with any emergency situation in the town during rains.
He instructed officials to get suction pumps ready, review preparations on the basis of daily weather reports, not to show any carelessness in responding to complaints, and submit reports soon after getting the desired results upon receipt of complaints.
Residents of the town can directly register their complaints at the town office or on telephone number 4538534, he added.
The TO Infrastructure Altaf Memon, DTO M&E Yousuf Raza, DTO B&R Iqbal Ahmed and other officials were present in the meeting.
GULSHAN TOWN: The Gulshan Iqbal Town on Tuesday declared rain emergency in the town and cancelled leaves of its employees.
The TMO stated this while inaugurating a cleanliness campaign in UC 6 of the town. The campaign was participated by 300 sanitary workers and contractors from other UCs of the town.
More than 200 tonnes of garbage were removed from the area.
The TMO has directed spraying germicides in the whole area.—PPI
