HYDERABAD, July 5: People’s Party Parliamentarians will field women candidates on seats of nazims and naib nazims in local body polls and on reserved seats of councillors in Sindh, party sources claimed on Sunday. The proposal was considered at a party meeting at the residence of MPA Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi on Saturday evening.

MNA Naheed Khan presided over the meeting.

MNA Shagufta Jumani, MPAs Farheen Mughal, Nuzhat Pathan, Begum Nargis N.D. Khan, Hina Dastagir and Surayya Jatoi attended the meeting.

A participant of the meeting told Dawn that a proposal which had been given due consideration called for fielding women candidates on seats of nazims and naib nazims in local body elections apart from reserved seats.

The party source said it was also decided that names of women candidates would be given by office-bearers of women wing to the party high command.

Organization of the women wing in newly created districts came under discussion and it was stressed that educated women should be brought in the party fold.

It was observed that office-bearers should also be given tickets to contest as UC nazims and naib nazims.

Naheed Khan said women were considered the backbone of any political party and they could not be ignored by the party.

She spoke of party’s programme and guidelines for party workers who were interested in contesting local body elections.

She appreciated work of women wing workers and urged them to disseminate party’s message among other women and they should hoist party flags on their homes.

She asked local women wing leaders to create awareness among women with regard to local body elections’ format and party’s manifesto.
