KARACHI: Handicrafts show inaugurated

KARACHI, July 5: Sindh Minister for Women Development Saeeda Malik inaugurating stalls of Women Development Department set up at the International Consumer Show at Expo Centre on Tuesday. She said products including handicrafts made by women artisans of Sindh had been displayed for the first time at an international exhibition, being participated by a number of representatives of foreign countries.

This was a proof of their skills and hard work, she said, adding the exhibition was meant to promote and enhance the living standard of the women population.

Dr Saeeda said the present government was striving hard to enhance the socioeconomic conditions of the rural population, particularly of the women.

The purpose of displaying handicrafts was to encourage women artisans of various districts of Sindh and provide them a marketing outlet for their products.

Dr Saeeda welcomed women artisans from a number of districts including Mithi, Khairpur, Hala, Jacobabad, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas, who had brought their products for display.

She said the exhibition would open up the national international market for their products.

Speaking to the exhibitors, she said it was a happy occasion that majority of exhibitors at the exhibition were young women, adding they had great potential.

The minister informed the entrepreneurs that the Sindh government had recently allocated 35 acres in the industrial park near Karachi exclusively for women artisans and entrepreneurs.—PPI
