Night Beauty tipped to win feature event
LAHORE, July 4: Four-year-old dark-bay filly, Night Beauty, looks set to lift the feature event to be run over the sprinting distance of 1000m during the Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Tuesday. The meeting, heralding the Lahore Racing Season 2005-06, was scheduled for Sunday but was postponed for two days because of heavy rains which lashed the city.
She is contesting in the seventh and last race, the Kalabagh Plate class IV division I and II handicap race in a field of nine runners barring last-minute withdrawals.
The filly from Yasoob Again out-of-Native Tune, Night Beauty, who in her last outings on June 5, was beaten by Decent Proposal, looks ready for the fray.
Her closest rivals could be My Own Job and Pawan. All three are speedy animals and relish the distance.
In the sixth and supporting event, the Kalabagh Plate, a Class IV Division III handicap race over 1000m, there are a dozen contestants, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Three of them come into reckoning.
They are: Persian Bold, High Dream and Wall Street. Persian Bold will be going all out to make it three in-a-row.
But before that she will have to measure strides with High Dream, a three-year-old filly from Key Guy out-of-Desert Storm, who had been very unlucky in the past.
She was beaten in seven of her past outings and placed second four times.
The fifth race promises to end in a lively contest between a quartet,namely, Silver Queen, Bone Crusher, Well Minister and Kamran The Great.
They should fight it out. A card of seven races has been drawn for the afternoon races, all to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1000m. The first race will be held at 2pm.
