MULTAN, July 4: Heavy downpour in the wee hours on Monday flooded the city, especially its low-lying areas. The rain, that continued for nearly three hours, was gauged by the meteorological department as 70.5mm. Collapse of mud houses and dilapidated buildings were reported from various parts of the city.

A labourer was reportedly electrocuted near the Alamdar College as he had touched an electricity pole.

The rain exposed the tall claims of outgoing city tehsil Nazim Faisal Mukhtar made at his last press conference regarding sewage and disposal system.

Rain water flooded the streets and roads even in the posh localities of the city.

The low-lying areas badly affected by the downpour are; Shirfpura, Circular Road, Shaheen Market, Khuni Burj, Pak Gate, Delhi Gate, General Bus Stand underpass, Khanewal Road, Chowk Rashidabad, Chowk Kumharanwala, Manzoorabad, Qasimpura and Old Shujabad Road.

SAHIWAL: Lightning claimed the lives of two women and at least six goats in different areas here on Monday.

The city received another spell of rain at 4:20am which lasted for some half an hour.

Widow Hajran sustained burns and died on the spot after she was struck by lightning in Mauza Akbar.

In Noll Kalan village, Sarwar Bibi (18) was asleep beside her six goats when lightning struck them. As a result, the girl and all her goats died on the spot.
