PESHAWAR, July 4: A number of NWFP Assembly members on Monday demanded postponement of the local body polls in the province. Talking part in a debate in the assembly on the flood situation in the province, MPA Qazi Mohammad Asad of the Pakistan Muslim League requested the federal government to postpone polls in the province due to the devastation caused by floods. He said the flood would continue because of to melting of snow and people would not be able to take part in the election. He said the federal government should consider that the province was under persistent threat of flood and the monsoon season might aggravate the situation.

PML MPA Nighat Orakzai said six districts in the province had been affected by the flood and rehabilitation of people there would take time, therefore, the government should postpone the election in the NWFP.

MPA Habibur Rehman of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal

also made the same demand.
