KARACHI: Altaf slams JI’s treatment to Nasreen

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, July 4: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain on Monday deplored Friday’s incident at the airport in which according to him about 400 workers of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) had attacked Nasreen Jaleel. He termed this incident an attempt to postpone the upcoming LB polls.

Addressing general workers gathering at Jinnah Ground Mr Hussain advised his supporters to remain calm and warned JI to desist from such acts.

“We do not want to retaliate because we believe in peace and democratic dispensation. If even the slightest indication was given to the workers then it will be difficult for the JI to face the situation, but we don’t want that. We want to respond through ballot and democratic means,” said Mr Hussain.

Referring to the All Party Conference convened by the MQM, Mr Hussain regretted that the PPP and other political parties did not attend.

He claimed that it only showed that they believed in democracy and peace in the country.

Mr Hussain said that his party would contest in the local bodies’ elections in all the provinces of Pakistan and prove that the MQM was the only party which represented the poor people.

Meanwhile, the MQM strongly condemned the allegations levelled by the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) that the MQM was involved in the killing of JI activist Tajammul Hussain, adds PPI.

In a statement issued here, a spokesman for MQM termed the allegation as “shameful”.
