KARACHI, June 4: Various parts of the city on Monday either went without water or got scant supply, adding to the miseries of the people of the affected localities in the current hot and sultry weather. The hard-hit localities include different Jinnah Cooperative Housing Society, Al-Hamra Society, Bangalore Town, Adamjee Nagar, F.B’ Area’s Blocks 14, 17 and 18, North Nazimabad’s Blocks I and J, Clifton’s Block 2, North Karachi’s sectors 11-C/1 and 11-C/2, Waheedabad, parts of Landhi, Korangi, Lyari, Kharadar, Mithadar, Ranchorre Lane’s Street No 3, Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony, Malir and its Saudia Colony.
Accusing the KWSB officials, particularly the valve-men concerned, of creating artificial water shortage, residents of affected localities suspect that water shortage is created to give boost the sales of private tankers.
“Isn’t it a matter of concern that thousands of water tankers continue to draw water from the Rangers-manned hydrants throughout the day while the residential areas located in their vicinity often go without water despite the fact that the pipeline supplying water to both the residential areas and the hydrant is same,” remarked a resident of North Karachi.
Residents of the affected localities, especially those belonging to Clifton’s Block 2, North Karachi, Waheedabad and Ranchorre Lane, complained that they had been experiencing acute water shortage for the last 20 days but the KWSB officials concerned had not yet been able to restore their normal supply although the lingering issue of water was in their knowledge for the last fortnight.
