ISLAMABAD, July 2: Pakistan would closely work with China to develop a consensus among developing countries on United Nations reforms, said Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz while talking to Chinese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Wu Dawei who called on him at the Prime Minister’s house on Saturday.
As far as UN Security Council reforms were concerned, the prime minister said, Pakistan felt they should be based on just, equitable and democratic grounds.
He said Pakistan and China enjoyed strategic relations and shared position on several issues.
Pakistan would continue to lend unequivocal support to China on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet, he said and added China had always stood by Pakistan.
He said both the countries would continue to closely work for combating terrorism and extremism.
On the regional situation, he said “Pakistan stands for peace with its neighbours and is engaged in a composite dialogue process with India to resolve outstanding issues, including Kashmir,” and referred to confidence building measures taken by his country.
“A strong, stable and peaceful Afghanistan is not only in the interest of its people but also in the interest of its neighbours and the region’” he said.
Mr Dawei said he had held useful and productive talks with Pakistani authorities and expressed satisfaction over their outcome.
He congratulated Pakistan on being given the observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and thanked it for its continued support to China on Taiwan and Tibet.
