Quartet hog limelight in PCB U-19 cricket


KARACHI, July 2: Fine batting by Hassan Raza, Waqas Haroon and Hafiz Asad and a destructive spell of bowling by Shamir Khattak guided their respective teams to victories in the two-day PCB Under-19 Karachi region Inter-district cricket championship Karachi Region on Saturday.

At Student Ground, KCCA Zone-VI defeated Zone-III by six wickets thanks to an unbeaten 94 by Hassan Raza, who blasted 10 fours and 70 by Waqas Haroon, who struck 13 boundaries.

Hafiz Asad smashed an undefeated 78 with nine boundaries to steer Zone-I to an easy seven wicket success over Zone-V at Landhi Gymkhana Ground.

Off-spinner Shahmir Khattak grabbed six wickets for 38 runs to spin Zone-II to 136-run win over Zone-VII at Asifabad Ground.

At Students Sports Ground: Zone-VI beat Zone-III by six wickets.

ZONE-III 251 in 71 overs (Mohsin Sultan 48, Ramiz Raja 43; Misbah Khan 5-82); ZONE-VI 252-4 in 66.1 overs (Hasan Raza 94 not out, Waqas Haroon 70, Misbah Khan 27; Shakaib Ahmed 2-57).

At Asifabad Sports Ground: Zone-II beat Zone-VII by 136 runs.

ZONE-II 317 in 88.2 overs (Mubashir Hasan 58, Faraz Feroz 56, Mohammad Fahim 54, Razaul Hasan 6-89); ZONE-VII 181 in 72.4 overs (Abdul Shad 38, Yasir Hussain 30; Shahmir Khattak 6-38).

At Landhi Gymkhana Ground: Zone-I beat Zone-V by seven wickets.

ZONE-V 150 in 53.3 overs (Hammad Rafique 50, Sheharyar Zafar 32; Saad Azeem 4-68, Noman Hussain 3-16, Tabish Nawab 2-30); ZONE-I 151-3 in 58.4 overs (Hafiz Asad 78 not out, Imran Ahmed 39 not out; Wasim Bari 2-33).—APP
