English security experts visit stadium

RAWALPINDI, July 2: The England security experts, assigned the task of giving green signal for England cricket team to tour Pakistan later this year, Saturday attended a briefing at DIG office here and then went round Pindi Cricket Stadium.

The security experts from England, Douglas Dick and Andy Allman, were accompanied by officials of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) during the security briefing given by the local police officials.

Dick and Allman visited the players pavilion, media enclosure and proposed exit and entry points for teams during their stay at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

The experts, who had already undertaken similar tours of venues at Karachi, Faisalabad, Multan and Lahore, were scheduled to exchange their assessment of the security, to be available for England team, with officials of British High Commission in Islamabad later in the day.

The visiting security experts refused to divulge any comments to the horde of waiting mediapersons.

The itinerary of England cricket team’s tour of Pakistan, tentatively to begin in the last week of October this year, is likely to be finalised when Dick and Allman see the PCB officials at Qadaffi Stadium on July 5.

Before giving the itinerary a final shape, the two-man security team will hold discussions with Director Cricket Operations of England Cricket Board (ECB), John Carr, and representative of Players Association, Richard Bevan, who are both due here on Sunday and will attend the meeting with PCB officials on Tuesday (July 5).

England’s cricket tour of Pakistan is scheduled to commence on Oct 25 and conclude on Dec 22, after playing three Test matches and five One Day Internationals.

PCB has proposed Test matches at Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad and ODIs at Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi.—APP
