RAWALPINDI, July 2: Forward Rehan Butt is yet to report while remaining 28 probables started training at national hockey camp which commenced on Saturday at Army Stadium to prepare squad for the two tournaments in Europe next month.
“Rehan Butt is expected to be here later in the evening or in the morning,” team manager Saeed Khan said.
Asif Bajwa heads a four-man team of coaches, all former internationals, among them Rana Mujahid, Mohammad Shahbaz and Abdur Rauf.
The camp will run till July 13 and resume on July 21 after a week’s break with the team for the European tour to be announced in early August.
Pakistan will feature in four-nation tournament in Hamburg, Germany, from Aug 12 to 14 before taking part in the eight-nation tournament in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, from Aug 14 to 21.
“The Amstelveen tournament will be like World
Cup as all the top teams of the world will be competing in that tournament,” manager said.
Besides Pakistan, other participating teams of the single-league tournament in Hamburg will be Australia, Germany and Holland.
In Amstelveen, Pakistan, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, India, South Korea, Spain and England will take part.
Pakistan will also be taking part in the Champions Trophy in Chennai, India, from Dec 10 to 18.
The other teams having qualified for this prestigious tournament are Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and India.—APP
