Canal breach damages crops in Mehar


DADU, July 2: A 50 feet wide breach occurred in the Kakol Wah at the Betto Road in Mehar taluka on Friday night. As a result of the breach, Gulshan Ghaffari and Mustafa Colony of the Mehar town were inundated. The water was flowing towards other areas of Mehar. The breach could not been plugged till the filing of this report.

Some of the affected growers and residents told newsmen that the local irrigation officials were informed about the breach but no one of them arrived at the site.

They said that more than 200 acres of farmland came under water while 20 houses collapsed.

KILLED: An employee of the Dadu taluka municipal administration was shot dead by three armed men in Mastoi Mohalla here on Saturday.

Reports said that sanitation supervisor Gulzar Ahmed, 45, of the Dadu Town Municipal Administration, was shot dead by three armed men while he was supervising the sanitation staff.—Correspondent
