ISLAMABAD, June 30: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated investigation against several district and tehsil nazims for their alleged involvement in massive corruption and financial and administrative irregularities during their four-year tenure, which ended on Thursday, a reliable source told Dawn.

The bureau has so far received written complaints against seven district nazims belonging to Punjab and Balochistan provinces while complaints are also being received from other provinces, the source said.

The source said the forthcoming local government election would not be affected by the process of investigation and prosecution.

The under investigation district nazims will not be barred from taking part in the local body polls. “No action will be taken against any nazim unless he is declared guilty by the court. A guilty nazim can be brought to justice even if he wins the polls again,” the source said.
