KARACHI: Former SHO remanded in custody

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 30: Former SHO of Korangi Industrial Area Anwar Jafri, arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of Jamat-i-Islami leader Aslam Mujahid, was remanded on Thursday to police custody for interrogation. The police produced the handcuffed suspect with his face muffled in the court of judicial magistrate, East, Ghulam Farooq, amid tight security. The magistrate ordered the police to complete the grilling of the former SHO and produce him before the court on July 8.

Aslam Mujahid was kidnapped from Landhi while he was returning from the funeral of a local JI leader. Later, his bullet-riddled body was found in Korangi Industrial Area. Police lodged the FIR after a delay of five days.

RANSOM CASE: An anti-terrorism court put off the hearing of a kidnapping for ransom case after recording the statement of a prosecution witness.

Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Saturday for the next hearing after the statement of Inspector Saqlain Ahmed, who was also cross-examined by the defence counsel.

Nadeem Ashrafi alias Nadeem Katta is being tried for kidnapping of the 19-year-old victim on September 26, 2003 for ransom in the limits of the Sir Syed Town police station.
