Two arrested on murder charge

GILGIT, June 29: Police in Gilgit have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in murder cases, a police spokesman said on Tuesday. Police rounded up Ghulam Nabi, in a raid on his house in Bagrote area. A weapon was also seized in the raid, the spokesman said, alleging that Nabi had shot dead Qayyum Khan, a Frontier Constabulary official in Gilgit on June 14.

The accused shot Qayyum Khan who was returning from the Gilgit hospital after admitting his colleague for treatment.

Similarly, the Diamer district police arrested a man wanted in looting a passenger bus on April 16.

He shot dead a passenger who had resisted.

The accused had robbed the passengers near Thalichi area and shot dead an army official Alamgir Hussain of Sakwar, the spokesman added.

He said the name of the accused was being kept in secret for security reasons.

In view of several untraced offences in the region, the chief secretary of the region had requested the Sindh government to send an expert to train the local police. An expert has arrived in the city and started training to local police.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Nadeem Manzoor and Inspector-General Sarmad Saeed Khan had urged the police to adopt professional honesty and integrity to root out sectarian terrorism.
