ISLAMABAD, June 29: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday said all possible funds had been allocated to promote science and technology in an effort to enable Pakistan enter the knowledge economy. He was talking to Prof K.R. Srenivasan, Director International Theory Physics, Trieste, Italy, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Mr Aziz emphasized the need to share practices and knowledge as the developing countries had the necessary human talent. This, he said, would be a fine example of globalization.
He said given the financial constraints Pakistan could encourage research only in fields that were applicable and relevant to its current economic needs.
Pakistan was making efforts to promote science and technology and had already separated general education from higher education, the prime minister said.
Dr Srenivasan appreciated the level and quality of research going on in premier scientific institutes in Pakistan.
