SAFF officials satisfied with facilities

KARACHI, June 28: A three-member delegation of South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) currently visiting the country has expressed ‘satisfaction’ pertaining to facilities at the Peoples Sports Complex for hosting the 6th SAAF championship later this year. Chairman, Sindh Football Association (SFA), Ghulam Abbas Baloch told Dawn on Tuesday that members of the delegation visited the Peoples Sports Complex twice the other day and went around the stadium. In the evening, they watched the floodlit system.

They also visited the Aga Khan Gymkhana to inspect facilities as it would be used for practice matches, he said. The members of the delegation also called on Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan at the Governor’s House and discussed matters relating to staging the SAFF contest. Besides members of the delegation which comprised SAFF secretary general, Sirajul Islam Bachchu, Thomas Wheeler and Ian Mathie, those present on the occasion were Sindh sports minister, Qamar Mansoor, officials of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Aga Liaquat and Ghulam Abbas Baloch, DCO Fazlur Rehman and Brig Akhtar Zamin.

The members of the delegation are also due to visit Punjab Stadium, Lahore and Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad. Final decision regarding selection of the venue will be announced in due course of time.
