LAHORE, June 28: Professor Sardar Mohammad Iqbal Khan Mokal was retained as president of the University of Punjab Sports Committee for the year 2005-06 on Tuesday. Sardar Iqbal obtained 34 votes as against 26 secured by his rival Professor Akhtarud Din.

Prof Paenda A Malik received 29 votes to be elected as vice-president (local) while Prof Ghulam Rasul Azad also secured 29 votes and was elected vice-president (mofussil).

The sports committee also approved the annual activity report for 2004-05 and budget for 2005-06.

Representative of 100 colleges affiliated with the university attended the meeting and also condoled the sad demise of cricket legend Fazal Mahmood.

Office-bearers:

President: Prof Sardar Muhammad Iqbal Khan Mokal.

Vice-presidents: Prof Paenda A Malik (local), Prof Ghulam Rasul Azad (mofussil).

Members: Prof Zafarullah Butter (Isamabad) Prof Gulzar Ahmad Khan (Rawalpindi), Prof Mian M.I Shamim (Gujranwala), Prof Abdul Hameed Chaudhary (Sargodha), Prof Ashraf Mahmood (Faisalabad), Prof Dr Ejazul Haq (Lahore Division), Mian Mohammad Rafiq (Lahore City), Mohammad Akram (Common zone).
