ISLAMABAD, June 28: Army’s Mumtaz Ahmed grabbed a gold on Tuesday in the 400m freestyle event of the 46th National swimming championship at the Pakistan Sports Complex.
Mumtaz who clocked 4:32.44 sec finished ahead of his team-mate Liaquat Ali whose time was 4:40.97. Shahbaz Khan of Wapda claimed the bronze medal in a time of 5:14.70.
Mumtaz’s heroics saw Army sitting pretty on the medals table with six gold medals, five of which were won on Monday night.
Of those finals, Mehboob Ali (200m freestyle), Nasir Hussain (200m breaststroke), Imdad Ali (200m backstroke) and Nisar Ahmed (400m individual medley) were the gold winners.
The first gold for Army on Monday was won by their 4x200m quartet of Mumtaz Ahmed, Mehboob Ali, Nisar Ahmed and Adil Baig.

Monday-200m freestyle: Mehboob Ali (Army) 2:03.56, Mumtaz Ahmed (Army) 2:05.99, Sikander Khan (Wapda) 2:18.34.
200m breaststroke: Nasir Hussain (Army) 2:39.89, Sanaullah (Army) 2:40.15, Abdul Aziz (Punjab) 2:42.04.
200m backstroke: Imdad Ali (Army) 02:23.17, Faiz Muhammad (Army) 02:27.62, M. Zahid (Navy) 02:39.69.
200m butterfly: Ali Gul (Navy) 02:16.67, Nasir Ali (Army) 02:20.90, Altaf Hussain 02.25.58.
