Adnan and Shan slam superb centuries

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, June 28: Sparkling centuries by Adnanur Rahman and Shan Masood put their respective teams into strong position on the first day of the two-day Karachi region PCB under-19 Inter-district cricket championship matches on Tuesday.

Opener Adnan slammed 157 off 219 balls to help Zone-V pile up 401 for eight in their quota of 90 overs against Zone-VII at the Asifabad sports ground. Adnan, who struck 15 fours and one six, added 145 for the fifth-wicket with Shaharyar Zafar (70 off 103 balls, 12 boundaries).

Zeeshan Rahim also made a telling contribution as he lashed 75 off only 88 deliveries with nine fours and two sixes.

Off-spinners Afzal Hussain (three for 83) and Yasir Hussain (two for 74) bowled well for Zone-VII.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Shan Masood hit 138 as Zone-III reached 341 for nine in 90 overs against Zone-I at the Students sports ground. Skipper Ramiz Raja narrowly missed scoring century when he was out for 97 after putting on 183 for the second wicket with Shan in slightly under three hours.

Shan’s 229-ball knock contained 19 boundaries before he was stumped by Zone-I skipper Sunil Parhan, while Ramiz bludgeoned 12 fours and two sixes during his 135-ball innings.

Tabish Nawab, the off-spinner, finished with four for 132 in 30 overs. Slow left-armer Nauman Hussain claimed three for 96 in 27 overs.

In contrast, batting wasn’t that easy at the TMC ground where Zone-II struggled through 71.4 overs to collect just 212 against Zone-IV. Mubashir Hasan was the top-scorer with a 94-ball 64, which was laced with four fours.

Mohammad Nadeem, who took the new-ball, was the wrecker-in-chief as he claimed five for 58 in 20.4 overs. Slow left-armer Aamir Shah bagged two for 56 in 21 overs.

Zone-IV themselves found the runs hard to come by as they managed just 43 for one in 23 overs.

Summarised scores:

At Asifabad sports ground: ZONE-V 401 in 90 overs (Adnanur Rahman 157, Zeeshan Rahim 75, Shaharyar Zafar 70; Afzal Hussain 3-83, Yasir Hussain 2-74) v ZONE-VII.

At Student sports ground: ZONE-III 341-9 in 90 overs (Shan Masood 138, Ramiz Raja 97, Irfan Qureshi 25, Arsalan Javed 20; Tabish Nawab 4-132, Nauman Hussain 3-96) v ZONE-I.

At TMC Ground: ZONE-II 212 in 71.4 overs (Mubashir Hasan 64, Hammad Khan 35, Shamir Khattak 31; Mohammad Nadeem 5-58, Aamir Shah 2-56); ZONE-IV 43-1 in 23 overs (Hassan Javed 25 not out).
