ISLAMABAD, June 28: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Tuesday submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly accusing the federal government of violating the constitution by denying assistance to the NWFP flood victims.

The motion seeks a debate on floods in the NWFP that has wreaked havoc in eight districts of the province.

Signed by the alliance’s president, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Liaqat Baloch and ten other MNAs, the motion said: “Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan and other districts of the NWFP were badly hit by the floods for the last one week, rendering a large number of people homeless and crops destroyed.”

The floods have inundated most of the Nowshera district disconnecting its land link with other areas of the province. Precious lives and livestock have been swept away.
