Work on Fort Munro cable car soon

MULTAN, June 28: Work on Rs735 million cable car system and allied facilities project is expected to begin during the current fiscal year at Fort Munro, the only hill station of southern Punjab in Dera Ghazi Khan district.

The PC-II of the project, worth Rs25 million, was in the process of finalization. It would be sent to the Punjab planning and development department for approval within a few days, Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab’s Multan region manager Shoaib Ahmad said on Tuesday.

It would be sent to the chief minister for final approval.

The cable car would start from Khar, a small settlement at the foot of Fort Munro, and go up to Fort Munro after a stopover at TDCP motel.

“The project is yet another proof of government’s commitment to develop south Punjab. We hope things would move swiftly on the matter and work would begin some time in next fiscal year starting from July 1,” Mr Ahmad said.

Fort Munro hill station, located at a height of 6,400 feet above sea level, is about 185 kilometres from Multan and around 85 kilometres from Dera Ghazi Khan in Suleman Mountain Range. It attracts a number of tourists every year, particularly those who wish to escape from hot plains of southern Punjab to enjoy mild and pleasant weather for a day or two.—APP
