Mob razes police post
SHEIKHUPURA, June 28: The Ajnianwala police post, which was set to fire late Monday night after the police released a blasphemy accused, was bulldozed by a mob on Tuesday.
The protesters also blocked the Sheikhupura-Hafizabad and Ajnianwala-Gujranwala roads suspending traffic for some two hours.
Mentally-retarded Mazhar Iqbal was caught by villagers after he burnt some pages of the Holy Quran. The situation aggravated when head-constable Ahmad Shah released him.
The angry villagers on Tuesday morning blocked traffic on the two main roads. Later, they razed the police post.
The protesters also met ASP city Ijaz Ahmad and DSP headquarters Zahid Husain and demanded suspension of the entire staff of the police post besides the shifting of the post outside the city. They also demanded that the accused and the head-constable should be arrested and no case be registered against the protesters.
The angry villagers called off their protest plan after the police accepted their demands.
CYLINDER BLAST: Six shops were damaged when a gas cylinder exploded at a shop here on Lahore-Sargodha Road on Tuesday.
Reports said Muhammad Din and Abbas were running the gas cylinder business at their shop. On Tuesday, a cylinder exploded as a result of which the adjoining shops caught fire.
However, no human loss was reported. Fire-fighters from Sheikhupura, Lahore and Hafizabad controlled the fire. — Correspondent
