KARACHI: Free textbooks ready for distribution

KARACHI, June 28: The Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, Dr Hamida Khuhro, said on Tuesday that the textbooks for class one to five were ready for free distribution among the students.

The books have already been dispatched to the talukas and would be distributed among the students from August 1 with the commencement of the new academic session, she said according to an official handout.

Referring to a news item regarding delay in the printing of books, Dr Khuhro said such press reports might be based on misunderstanding as the textbooks for primary classes were prepared this year much ahead of time and in fact dispatched to different areas.

She further said that the Sindh government had expanded the scheme up to the tenth standard and made provision of funds for the purpose in the budget 2005-06 and added that the textbooks to the students of class six to ten would be given for the academic year starting from 2006.—PPI
