LAHORE, June 27: The Jamaat-i-Islami will not cooperate with the ruling PML in the local bodies polls. “How electoral adjustments can be made with the so-called ruling party operating under the supervision of the army,” Naib Amir Hafiz Muhammad Idrees told a gathering in the Defence Housing Society here on Monday. He, however, did not rule out adjustments with opposition parties.

Criticizing involvement of the army in politics, he said the role had damaged its image and respect among masses.

“The interest of the country, nation as well as of the institution of the army is that it should play its elementary role of safeguarding frontiers. This will restore repute of the institution among masses.”
