Chip dispute

GENEVA, June 27: A World Trade Organization appeals panel on Monday upheld US duties that hit South Korea’s Hynix Semiconductor, imposed because Washington said the firm received illegal government restructuring aid. In a report, the appeals body said it had overturned an earlier WTO dispute panel ruling which had found in favour of South Korea.

“This is an important turnaround for US high-tech manufacturers, as well as the international trading system,” said US trade chief Rob Portman.—AFP
