LAHORE, June 26: Four-year-old dark-bay filly, Mumtaz Mahal, produced a performance of highest calibre to be the magnificent winner of the Teletec Nokia Trophy over 1200m during the last edition of the Summer Meetings to bid adieu to the Lahore Racing Season 2004-05 at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The filly owned by Faraz Ahmad Chaudhry was given a confident ride by jockey Shahid Rehman in front of a sizable crowd in spite of the muggy weather.
Mumtaz Mahal beat Red Rock by four lengths. Squash Ball finished third, about four lengths further behind while Safe And Sound completed the frame, a distance away. The feature event was contested by six contenders. The winner clocked one min 13 1/5 secs in a handy position.
This was the sixth and last race of the day as well as the Lahore racing season 2004-05.
A race earlier fancied filly, Chici Chitta managed to get the better of Wall Street in the dying strides to land a courageous victory in the Nokia 6630 Cup over 1200m.
Where And When and Shifting Gold completed the board among eight runners.
Jockey Aamar Parvaiz rode the winner owned by Khawaja M. Arif and trained by Mubarik Ali.
The victory of Mumtaz Mahal capped a marvellous end of the Lahore racing season for jockey Shahid Rehman, who highlighted the day’s racing by bringing home three winners when earlier he had piloted home Phoenix and Persian Bold in the third and fourth race, respectively.
Two of his winners, Phoenix and Mumtaz Mahal also earned a double for trainer A. B. Malik.
Former International hockey star, Munir Ahmad Dar, was very lucky when his brown mare edged out favourite Eye Of The Tiger by one and a quarter length in the second race.
Jockey Shahid Rehman riding Eye Of The Tiger could not match the fast pace set by All At Sea, whose rider Anjum adopted runaway tactics and reaped the fruits.
Storm Warning and Daring Bulbul completed the frame among a big field of 18 runners.
